1st Grade Happenings

Geometry is the focus for the next few weeks in 1st grade! We just finished a project called the exploding square! Students took square pieces of paper, folded, and cut it to create art. We discussed the parameters that make something a square, as well as the shape of our art at the end. Student work is hung in the classroom and the hallway of 1st grade.

Small groups working with me in my space are currently looking at shapes in the real world! We are exploring shapes of food items and how different shapes make up different items. Students then need to answer the driving question "Can you invent a food item that is made up of more than 3 shapes?"
