Ms. Berry- Special Education

Hello,

I'm Ms. Berry.  I am the special educator for kiddos in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade!

We have started to get working on both reading and math.

In reading class, we are working on a few different things (depending on grade level)

in 2nd grade:

We're looking at the beginning sound of the word.  This is to help us solve tricky words.  While reading with your student, be sure to have them try out the first sound.  We are also using the pictures to help us with the word.  While they are reading, and make a mistake ask them " does that sound right?"  This prompt will help support their growing decoding skills while reinforcing the language they use while working with me.

in 3rd grade:

We're looking at cluster at the beginning of the word.  We also call this a Consonant cluster.
 We're currently practicing
      Sl (slide)
      St (stick)
      Sk (skunk)

We will start to be practicing
    Gr (grill)
    Tr (tree)

In 4th grade:

We're practicing how to summarize our story.  We like to want to give a descriptive retell of the entire book, so we are working on how to weed out the unimportant stuff without oversharing.

On the right, there are some links to interactive websites that kiddos can access.  If you are trying to access Nessy and you're unable to find your kiddos name, please let me know.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.  I can be reached by email at jberry@jesvt.org or by phone at 888-6727 Ext 6797

Reading:

The "secret" word is Magentashoe.
They can then type in their name to find their monkey.

Technology:

As each student is given a chromebook to work with, we will start using the program read and write.  This program will allow your student to hear what they have written on the screen.
