Ms. Berry- Special Education

#Dyslexiaawarenessmonth October is Dyslexia awareness month.
Hello,

I'm Ms. Berry.  I am the special educator for kiddos in 3rd, 4th and a few in 5th grade!

We have started to get working on both reading and math.

In reading class, we are working on a few different things (depending on grade level)

in all  grade(s):
We are working a few things, but the most important part is letter sounds and how they help us when we are stuck on a hard word.
We are also working on "snap words" these are words that are based on memory.  We can't sound them out to read or spell them so we have to memorize them.  Learning these words help us get to more books and write bigger sentences.

We are also working on cursive.  There is a lot of research that states as kiddos are learning to read and write the connective letters in cursive help develop those skills.

in 5th grade:
 We're working on syllables. we have learned that Syllables are a word or a part of a word that has ONE Vowel SOUND!

Learning Ally is a human reading app that kiddos at JES have access to! Please feel free to reach out to get their log in information!

Here are some reading resources that might be useful:

  In Math groups,

We are working on strategies to help with multiplying and adding!
