Guidance Classes For the Week 9-23

Sparkles: (PreK and Kindergarten)

 PreK: It was really fun to meet all the new students. I will not be doing lessons with the PreK for a while. Parents will be notified of the next round of lessons. As always give me a call if you need anything!!

Kindergarten: EEEEK!! Seems the Pirates on Thursday last week kept me from being in one of the classrooms so the teachers and I hatched the plan to have ALL 38 students together on Friday. Well that did not happen due to my needing to attend to a different matter. So this week we are shooting for twice for each classroom!! We will most certainly be focusing keeping our personal space and using our words not our bodies to express what we want or how we feel.

 Detectives: (1st and 2nd grades)

1st Grade: For the next three weeks we will be focus on one feeling/emotion, anger (mad). For the first lesson we will read and discuss the book, When Sophie Gets Angry – Really, Really Angry. Our goal is to understand the feelings and emotions of being mad or angry is natural and normal. We will explore how we can go from feeling fine to having strong feelings (in control) then to having those strong feelings and losing our controls then back to calm or normal.

Later in the week I will be joining the 1st grade music class as we use our bodies and music to explore this feeling/emotion.

2nd Grade: This week the second grade will be exploring careers around their community. We will not have a guidance class. Next week we will continue to explore careers and how people get things done at school and work.

 Green Mountaineers (3rd and 4th grades)

Last week we never got to the modified Teddy Bear toss so we will do that this week. Instead of using partners to play catch we must move the object from one place to another using the same technique used when playing catch. (Ask your student more about what it looked like). The lesson here is to again force effective communication, learn what to do with frustration, and as always have some fun while learning.

 The activity we did last week about passing objects around the circle became the focus of goal setting and how an individual has an impact on the whole group. We transferred our experiences with passing an object around the circle to working on projects with partners and meeting whole class behavior goals.

Explorers (5th and 6th grades)

How honest are you?? We will play a series of tag games and explore conflicts and honesty.
