Contact (802) 888 6761 cnewberg@jesvt.org December 22nd, 2017 Vol. 1 Issue 16 Dear Parents/Guardians, This week has been a very exciting week at Johnson Elementary School. Not only did we have our music informance on Tuesday, we had two rehearsals during the week. On Monday the students had earned a classroom reward. Ms. Cass set up breakout boxes for the students to try to get into. Unfortunately no group was able to crack the code. The kindergartners’ gingerbread man came to life on Thursday, your kids can explain that one to you. We also had our holiday party today. I would like to thank parents who sent something in for our class to share. In math we have started to get ourselves ready for our fractions and decimals unit that we will be diving into during the new year. We are still working on our fluency for multiplication and division. In reading we finished up our research projects with presentations to the class. We are still working on our nonfiction books for our reading groups. In writing we have continued writing our second fiction story. We have had a crazy week in the afternoons, when we usually have global citizenship or science. We have had one day of each. In global citizenship we finished our Australia unit. In science we finished our experiments that was testing if mass affects kinetic energy. We also had 4winds this week. Feel free to call me (ext. 6761), email me (cnewberg@jesvt.org), or send a note if you have any questions or concerns. I am usually at school until 5:00, you are more than welcome to call me until then. I hope you have a great weekend. Best Regards, Christine Newberg Old New Letters: November 16th, 2017 Vol. 1 Issue 12 Dear Parents/Guardians, I do apologize for sending last week’s letter late. This week a lot has been happening in our classroom. Yesterday I revealed to everyone what our classroom reward is going to be. I’m sure that some of you have already heard the news. We will be having a pajama and movie day on Monday the 20th. I will also be making popcorn for everyone. We will have a vote on which movie to watch that morning. Also in this week’s Friday Folder you will be finding your student’s report card. Most students have their SBAC results from last year enclosed as well. There is also a form inside the envelope to fill out. Please make sure that you sign the envelope and send it back to school on Monday. Remember that Parent-Teacher Conferences are next Monday and Tuesday. If you haven’t signed up, and you would like to, you need to call the office to make one. In math we are still working on finding ways to multiply double digit numbers. Everyone seems to be doing very well. The students have been very excited to be using Reflex Math on their chromebooks this week. In reading we are still looking at strategies to use when reading nonfiction books. In writing we are still working on writing fiction stories. Everyone is working on developing a character for their story. We had four winds this week in science, where we learned about the ecosystem in a fallen tree. In global citizenship we have looked at ancient Greece, religions of Greece, and modern Greece. Next week we will wrap up Greece with a game of jeopardy. Feel free to call me (ext. 6761), email me (cnewberg@jesvt.org), or send a note if you have any questions or concerns. I am usually at school until 5:30, you are more than welcome to call me until then. I hope you have a great weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing you for conferences. Best Regards, Christine Newberg
